I live in a town and work in a city that were both "built" on a marshes. You can go for a walk in any remotely, half country-esque area and you will find marshy things like cattails. You can walk in my balk yard and find cattails, if you don't want to travel that far. They are ever so pretty in real life...these tall simple plants waving in the wind or standing sturdy and proud.

ReplyDeleteThis is so soft & pretty. It looks like it was chalked right onto the cardstock. I love cattails and while I don't see them much anymore here in the West, I did enjoy them so much on the edge of the Eerie canal where it ran through a park just outside my neighborhood when I lived in the East as a young girl. Your story about your town built in the marshes reminds me of a town I lived in for a few years...it was also marshlands and they had trucked in millions of tons of earth on TOP of this marshy land....well that was like in 1945 or so....anyway,,,to make a long story short....no one had basements...water level toooo high, everyone´s yards were like walking on a sponge...squeesh,squeesh noise as you walked through the yard...that is if you could even walk through them as on some days the yard was laying full of water and when it would RAIN...well you don´t even want to know about the yards that would turn into lakes and you´d have ducks and exotic birds trying to make a new home. To make this story even shorter,,,WE MOVED:)
ReplyDeleteLike 10 hours south and now it is so dry here and hotter than you know what...oh well, that is why I paint and create things in my COOL basement studio...yes, we actually do have basements here :)

ReplyDeleteSounds like a wonderful town! I'm counting the years till the kids are out of school and we can move closer to the shore. My kids think its strange, but I love the smell of low tide when we travel to the coast. Reminds me of my childhood.
