The Bedspread
I wrapped myself in its comfort every night. It protected me from storms. From the bad guys. From my oldest sister's cat. It was always warm when I needed it to be and just cool enough for those hot summer nights. I had my beadspread all through gradeschool (and beyond)... I think I saw it in the closet in my old room at my parent's house, so I think it is still around. Perhaps I should bring it home with me and remember what it is like to be young again.
The inspiration photograph at Love My Tapes reminded me of this well loved bedspread of my youth with its colors and textures. Thank you to the Button Junkie as well for sending me some of her very own crinkly ribbon. This is the first time I've used it and wow-it was a lot of fun and super easy to work with.
A little rusty on the cardmaking front here! My oldest just went off to join the first grade with a lot of homework and I've re-discovered the joy of reading again. I'm hoping it will come back to me, I'd even take it slowly coming back to me.

ReplyDeleteBeautiful card! I love the combination of colors and textures.
ReplyDeleteI love reading too. If you are interested,I am on goodreads.com (user elizgom) I like reading peoples reviews of books, getting suggestions, and even keeping track of what I read so I don't buy it or check it out again.
I love the patterns and soft colors you used-it really makes me think of a cozy quilt! The ribbon is fantastic, too!
ReplyDeleteThis is so pretty Karen!
ReplyDeleteP/s: I need to wrap myself in my blanket to sleep too! ;)

ReplyDeleteSo pretty and soft looking - I'm getting tired just hearing about that cozy blanket and looking at those peaceful colors. Great take on the challenge Karen!
ReplyDeleteThey learn so much in the first grade - hope your guy has a great year!
Karen,
ReplyDeleteI love your card - I love stamping on design paper - it gives such detail to the image! I agree about the comforts of our youth - although I didn't "attach" to a blanket or comforter - wait! Maybe the gold silky one that my Mom used to curl up in on the couch. Yes, that would be an incredible comfort to me now.
Hugs! Having one going off to first grade is hard.
Rusty... that doesn't look rusty to me... love the ribbon too and love your roses, how'd your score those (chuckle chuckle)
ReplyDeleteKaren I love these flowers and the colors are so pretty together. So jealous over that ribbon. I have got to buy some!

ReplyDeleteLovely card, the crinkly ribbon is fabulous. And yes it is easy to work with, I bought some off Etsy and since I stink at tying a bow the crinkle ribbon made that fool proof. LOL! Love the colors and the texture of your card. :-)
ReplyDeleteThis is sooo cute Karen! Love it! Thank you for the sweet comments on my blog bg! I am enjoying that it was all done by me, its a nice feeling of accomplishment to learn a new craft lol! Congrats to you on your P>C stamp set!!! That is so awesome, I have been working on some digis of my own!

ReplyDeleteI don't know how you're fitting reading in- one kindergartener & I can barely make a card!!! I'm inspired by your balance...!

ReplyDeleteSo lovely!! Those flowers are gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteLovely, lovely.
ReplyDeleteLove this! And I love your story! For me it was my teddy bear who I still have. He has bare spots (no pun intended) where I loved his fur off and his nose was replaced at some point with a white pom pom that my mom had to color black with a marker so it would look like his old one. He lives in my cedar chest and guards all my favorite treasures from when my boys were babies :)
ReplyDeleteThis is so lovely! The color scheme is so happy!
ReplyDeleteYou should totally get your bedspread and put it to good use! Think how cozy it would be in your favorite comfy chair with a good book and a cup of tea. Ahhh, bliss.
