According to Wikipedia, "Smocking is an embroidery technique used to gather fabric so that it can stretch..." or made for a really cute outfit for a little girl. My mom had made the cutest pale yellow dress with a smocking detail and pale pink flowers across the bodice for my cousin, over thirty years ago. My aunt saved the dress and just a year or two ago, my cousin put this pretty little dress on her own girl.
I'm entirely delighted to being doing a Carbon Copied post today with the talented Trinh Arrieta from Cardediem! We are playing along with CAS-ual Fridays Challenge: Put Your Heart Into It and using Iconic Images from Papertrey Ink.
Since Iconic Images didn't have any hearts as stamps, we both had to get creative with this challenge. I kept thinking of the dress, and how entirely way too cute my cousin's little girl was in the dress when making this card. I used the sweet flower images which reminded me of the flowers from the dress, stamped them onto the card base and then die cut a heart and stamped flowers onto that as well, after a bit of inking the edges. The heart was sewn onto the card base and then I stamped the sentiment.
I can't wait to see Trinh's take on the challenge! Have you checked out her blog yet? As mentioned previously, she is so talented! I love her clean and simple style and creative use of stamps. Oh how I admire her work!
Oh how sweet is this! My mom used to love putting me in little smocked dresses and I always complained about how much they itched! Love, love, love your take on the challenge! Thanks so much for playing with us at CAS-ual Fridays!
ReplyDeletethis is really cute. I love the image stamped on the heart so it is raised a bit. Very cool look!! amazing you remember your cousin's dress from so many years ago. I have some not-so-fond memories of lots of polyester from the early 70's ick! but it all coordinated!

ReplyDeleteWow, this looks like smocking....oh did I ever have dreams of having a girl so I could put her in smocking dresses and jumpers and I dare say that my little guy had some johnny jumpers that had smocking on them. Only in the south is this acceptable! We lived in Hawaii, but the origins came from the south! I had to get it out of my system I guess. He sure did look handsome, and for a short while I got away with it. Sigh....
ReplyDeleteYour card is amazing!
Love how you incorporated the heart on your sweet card!
ReplyDeleteThis is totally sweet and I love your story. Put a smile on my face. My mom used to buy smocked dresses for me and she had someone make a little yellow one (with white, not pink flowers) for my DD when she was born.
ReplyDeleteI do remember seeing the little dresses with smocking!! Love them! I don't see them much any more--too much work, I guess! Your card is absolutely DARLING, Karen!! I love the stitching and little flowers! Off to check Trinh's card! And glad to "see" you back ;)
