Country Bumpkin
I literally clench the wheel when driving on interstates or through big cities. Although I love what the city might have to offer, call me a country bumpkin any day and give me the speed limits of only 35-55 miles per hour. I think its been at least six months since I last drove through a city that has a real sky scape, and I'm totally fine with that.
I was quite intrigued, however, to participate in Moxie Fab World's Cityscapes are on the Rise Challenge for the fact that cities represent growth. Growth represents change, as in a graduation, or a promotion-where the sky is literally the limit!
I created the night time sky with a few squirts of mist after masking out the buildings. The windows were created by using mesh as a mask. (Often times I wish I had the resources to learn more about my camera so I can accurately capture how all the elements work together in my card, but alas, I am a country bumpkin without too many resources around--and I'm totally fine with that...)
Supplies Used:
Cardstock: (Pumpkin Pie, Basic Black) SU, (White) Office Max
Stamps: (Sentiment from Look Up!) Practicing Creativity Designs
Ink: (Onyx Black) Versamark, (Pumpkin Pie, Summer Sun Pigment) SU, (Charcoal Chalk) Colorbox
Other: (Mr. Huey Mists) Studio Calico, (Black Pen) Pilot, (Staples) Tim Holtz
LOL - I love your title for this post. Ingenious sky scrapers - love your 'windows' technique!
ReplyDeleteThis is a gorgeous card, wow!
ReplyDeleteI misread the title and thought it said "country Pumpkin" and when I saw the city scene, I was confused!!! LOL, then I read more carefully, lol!!!! Driving in big cities is the PITS! lol.
ReplyDeleteawesome card, Karen! Love how you created the cityscape! I totally feel the same way about city driving!!!
ReplyDeleteThe Practicing Creativity sentiment is perfect for these, and oh-so-clever you created your own sky scrapers, love it! There's nothing wrong with being a country bumpkin... I have stress attacks at big cities too.
ReplyDeleteThis is amazing, Karen! I love the masked buildings- and your windows are brilliant! another Moxie Fab creation!!
ReplyDeleteYour cityscape looks fantastic Karen, very clever. Great card.
ReplyDeleteLove this COOL design, Karen! This is what cityscape is all about--simple, hip, graphic and so is your style!
ReplyDeleteOMG Karen, this is gorgeous! You are a master with those mists! The colour scheme is wonderful, they both pop!
ReplyDeleteLove your little cityscape! That misting and masking is brilliant!
ReplyDeleteCountry Bumpkin, LOL! This is awesome! I love the blue and orange together. I am with you on the relaxed lifestyle of the suburbs. I love the slow life. LOL!
ReplyDeletewonderful card, karen! love the misting and your use of the mesh for the windows-very clever:)
ReplyDeleteI'm not a fast driver either. Your card is so cool and love the sentiment you used to go with your skycrapers.
ReplyDeleteWOW! So creative. And I'm right there with you when it comes to preferring "slow and steady". haha!
ReplyDeleteAs always, your use of color is so striking and perfectly suited to the theme of the card. I love the inked sky and clever way you masked to created the windows. And though I now live in an urban area nestled between two major interstates (and everyone in MA drives like they had to be there 20 minutes ago), I will always be a country girl with a great appreciation for a slow country drive (or even better, a walk!). I'm okay with that, too!
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous, Karen! I love the misted sky and that tiny bit of yellow peeking out.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea with the mesh and the misting! Wonderful card with great colors too.
ReplyDeleteCountry bumpkin - LOL! I think so long as you have internet you can no longer be a country bumpkin ;>) Just don't tell me it's dial up - hee, hee, hee!
I LOVE the colors on this! And the techniques you used to create your cityscape are so creative!
ReplyDeleteI too grew up a country bumpkin and having just delt with a week of DC traffic I long for that again! I love what your amazing card has to offer. So fun!
ReplyDeletePardon the typos. Working from my phone in the car! (not the driver lol)
ReplyDeleteI love the abstract feel of this and the bright orange card. I sense a winner here... :)
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you are a proud "country bumpkin"! Can't have enough of you in the world! :)
And you would love it here in Bermuda - the speed limit is 35 kph. Except for in the town of St. George's where it is 25 kph! :)
ReplyDeleteI love your card. The misting and windows are just fabulous!
ReplyDeleteMisting through mesh? You ARE a genius, no doubt about it. Wow...just...wow.
ReplyDeleteOh wow! You are a total creative genius!
ReplyDeleteFabulous Card!! I feel the same way about driving in the city! Downtown Denver is not even really "Big" city but the one way roads and narrow lanes just put me on edge. Much happier in my suburbs :)
ReplyDeleteYour window technique is awesome. Your card is fabulous!!!
ReplyDeleteWay cool card! I love all the techniques you used with the mesh and the misting. The sky looks fantastic!
ReplyDeletewow. really love how you made the buildings! so clever and the misted night sky is perfect! fabulous card, Karen! LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteLove your card...the misting is fab.
ReplyDeleteVery nice card!
ReplyDeleteI can imagine framing this on hanging it on the wall - love it!
ReplyDeleteThis is great! I love the city but live in a rural area now. It's nice to be able to drive in to the city and come back to our nice, quiet town.
ReplyDeletei was getting caught up on my neglected blog reader yesterday on the train ride into nyc when i saw this...absolutely awesome karen!! total work of art!
ReplyDeleteDriving in the city is a challenge no matter where you live. All the crazies behind the OTHER wheels make it life threatening... it's why I take the train now.
ReplyDeleteThe simplicity of the skyline is a wonderful contrast to the movement in the sky. And the use of mesh to make the windows is so creative. This is a great card.
Hey Karen! Thanks for entering the Cityscapes Are on the Rise challenge in the Moxie Fab World! I'm so glad you joined in on all the fun! :)
