"I often sit and wish that
I could be a kite up in the sky,
and ride upon the wind
and go whichever way I chanced to blow."

Today Wendy P. from Paper, Ink and Smiles is joining me with a Carbon Copied project using Practicing Creativity Designs stamp set called You're Dandy and Moxie Fab World's Vertical Sketch Challenge. I've followed Wendy's amazing work for quite a while now and am delighted to share a spot next to her on the Skipping Stones Design Design Team.
I've flipped the sketch upside down and paper pieced the kites. After inking all the edges of each piece of paper for a vintage inspired look, I adhered them all to a rustic card base. Simple, yes, but it brings back memories of the simple days when I was a kid and that is why I make cards. I remember now why I don't make cards the "normal Hallmark" way with the vertical orientation and the fold going down the side rather than the top-they are a bugger to photograph.
Thanks to Wendy and please go check out her card today featuring the same set and the same sketch challenge (and you may want to scroll down a bit on her blog for a wonderful tutorial on a wood-burned bracelet...it is of the upmost beauty...ah-mazing!)
(I have a link to sign up for a Carbon Copied feature on my sidebar, if you are interested!)
Supplies Used:
Cardstock: (Natural White) SU
Patterned Paper: GCD
Stamps: (You're Dandy) Practicing Creativity Designs
Ink: (Walnut Stain, Vintage Photo Distress) Ranger

Your cards are always amazing and this one is going to the top of my list for favorites. Love the kites.
ReplyDeleteSuch a fun-looking card full of colours to draw the eye! I really dig those kites too :)
ReplyDeleteAnd I totally agree about side-folding cards, yuck. ;)
I flipped the sketch too, lol! LOVE how you used the trio of kites flying to represent the triangle elements! brilliant! and love the mix of pattern papers! Gorgeous!
ReplyDeletethank you, thank you, THANK YOU for letting me play along with you this week in Carbon Copy!
oooohhh....I love how you've flipped the sketch and I so adore that PC set!
ReplyDeleteLove this take on the sketch!
ReplyDeleteNice quote. Sometimes, I wish that too. The colors you used are AMAZING!! I love the 3 kites too - such a sweet & fun card! Off to visit Wendy!
ReplyDeleteFabulous, loved the stamping over the patterned paper.
ReplyDeleteWOWZA Karen!! Your idea is fabulous!!! Your card is fantastic. Thanks for sharing!!
ReplyDeleteStunning card Karen. Love the colors and PPs. I also designed my card turning the sketch.
ReplyDeleteI love the colors and textures, especially the big thick stripes of the background. Every time I make a card with the fold down the side I also recall why I hate doing them that way, they ARE hard to photograph, and they sometimes make tying a ribbon or twine around rather difficult too (and I do love some twine)
ReplyDeletenow THAT is an interpretation of that sketch!! so uniquely done!! awesome!
ReplyDeleteHi Karen i like that it's a bit rustic! Such a great card makes me think of childhood summers and innocence!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous paper piecing and the edges are so perfectly inked! And I know what you mean about the folded side of the card. Now that I've tried top folds it's my fave way to go!
ReplyDeleteLove paper pieced kites and PP used for the card. Fabulous card.
ReplyDeleteThat vintage distressed look is just wonderful Karen, like a piece of painted wood. Love the kites and the verse you quoted :)
ReplyDeleteJenny x

ReplyDeleteCute way to flip the sketch girl!
ReplyDeleteOh, I love your take on the sketch! Those banners have me stumped, but the way you flipped them and used the kites--brilliant!
ReplyDeleteKaren, I love how you flipped the sketch...and I am 100% with you on the non-Hallmark fold! Love the clean simple fly away feel of your card.
ReplyDeletereally like your take on the sketch and love seeing you using more patterned paper in your cards! fab card! totally agree on how hard it is to get a good photo with a side fold vertical card! =)
ReplyDeleteKaren, I love your take on this so much!!! I love kites so this made me smile!
ReplyDeleteBrillant use of the sketch!
ReplyDeleteLOVE your card Karen <3
Kites remind me of happy days too! :)
ReplyDeleteLove your brilliant take on the sketch Karen! Such a lovely card! :)
I'm just loving this Karen! Vintage and fun..... my favourite kind :-)
ReplyDeletelove that you flipped the sketch. Never heard of that stamp company and will definitely browse their store. Not sure why, but your description of the card and childhood reminded me of when I was little. I was walking down a lane drinking those juices that are in those teeny tiny wax bottles??? remember those? anyway, I fell and scraped my knee pretty bad. Don't think I ever had that candy again... Just sharing the freedom of being little, skipping down a lane, enjoying for a moment being a KID!
ReplyDeleteThese cards ARE hard to photograph, but you did it well and I love those stripes. I have fond childhood memories, and kite flying is one of them!
ReplyDeleteclever use of the sketch!!
ReplyDeletejust beautiful, karen! great use of the sketch:)
ReplyDeleteLOVE those paper pieced kites! So whimsical and fun!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the kites on the patterned paper. The pp background is so perfect! Great take on the sketch! That's too funny about the "Hallmark style" fold...I never thought about it, but you're right that they can be a bugger to photograph.
ReplyDeleteThis is a "smile" card!!! LOL about the fold, I completely and totally agree with you!
ReplyDeleteYour card makes me think of our summer vacation by the beach, flying kites for the first time with my DD. Great take on the sketch!
ReplyDeleteHey Karen! Thanks for linking this up to the Vertical Sketch Challenge in the Moxie Fab World! I'm so glad you joined in on all the fun! :)
