I was so excited to pass Level 1 of the Altenew Educator Certification Program, and equally excited to continue the journey for Level 2. The Beyond Basics Background Class was certainly fun and educational! I really liked the trick of creating a stencil with a small die to build a background. Lydia also mentioned that small stamps/dies work better for this technique, so I found a pretty little flower trio from Remember This. Rather than inking the "stencil" with one color ombre ink, I used a blue toned green on the stem and leaves and purple ink on the flowers. I then stamped the image over the inked stenciled areas.
I then stamped the outline leaf image from Remember This in the background, and splatter some blue ink as well. I finished the card with a die cut sentiment from Majestic Blooms that I heat embossed with silver. For a bit of extra interest, I backed the die cut with another ombre colored die cut and added a corresponding sentiment from the Sentiment Strips Stamp Set.
This class was a lot of fun, and Lydia, the instructor, offered so many different and unique ideas to create custom backgrounds. I can't wait to try more of them out on future cards.
