Watercolor is one of my favorite mediums to work with, not only for the challenge the medium holds but how expressive it can be! I'm working my way through the Altenew Educator Certification Program, this entry is for Creative Watercolor Media. The three instructors in the class were brilliant, each teaching their own style of watercoloring, each lesson brilliant. I was really keen on trying Laura's lesson to stamp with a heat embossing ink over a large panel, then white heat embossing and dropping vibrant watercolor onto the images. How cool to let the watercolor do your work for you!
I chose to work with the Hibiscus Bouquet Stamp Set due to the large open areas and the fact that the flowers in real life are so bright and colorful! After heat embossing in white, I dropped in shades of red and orange, with a bit of green for leaves. I repeated this process a few times to get the intensity of the color, and learned to leave it alone and let it dry...to let the watercolor do it's work, like Laura mentions in her class.
After the watercolor panel dried, I trimmed it down and adhered it to a card base with a strip of bold, simple striped patterned paper. I finished the card with a mix of a die cut sentiment and stamped sentiment, and a few black Nuvo drops.
Altenew has so many sets that this technique would work for, I also think it would make for a lovely project when images are stamped in silver and watercolored with cool tones! This card was part of Level 2 of my journey in the Altenew Educator Certification Program.
