A Twist on Kraft

It is so sad when I have to make sympathy cards, and yet I wonder why are they the most requested for purchase at my work?

This card uses the colors of the latest Curtain Call Color Challenge. I thought that the twine was a good twist for kraft, as a kraft base just felt a bit dark and heavy.

Speaking of Twists, Twisters, etc., we had a tornado touch down last Wednesday in our little ol' town here. One of the scariest things I've ever experienced. We were lucky to only have minimal damage, I find comfort in knowing that "someone" watched over us those few scary minutes.

Supplies Used: Cardstock: (White) Georgia Pacific Patterned Paper: (Green Checked, Green Argyle from Sweet Pea Collection) Stampin' Up! Stamps: (Woodgrain Silhouettes) Wplus9, (Heartfelt Sympathy) Stampin' Up! Ink: (Old Olive Pigment) Stampin' Up! (Watermark) Veramark Other: (Chalk) Stampin' Up! (Pewter Brad) Stampin' Up! (Rustic Twine) PTI Tools: (Corner Round Punch) Fiskars

  4. Beautiful, beautiful card! I'm happy to hear you survived the twister. My mom used to have to deal with those nasties when she was a child. She says they are SCARY!!!

  11. This is lovely! I find it very hard to make sympathy cards, and it's even harder if you wait to make it when the need arises.

Tornadoes are so scary, glad no one was seriously hurt and you only had minor damage!

  17. Even for a sad occasion, this card is beautiful. I like the color combination.
I am happy that you and your family are safe. The fury of nature makes me very afraid. Here is some flooding, especially in autumn.

  18. I looked at those colors and thought I could do that- and I have a cat sympathy card to make! So I think I might just borrow a few of your ideas.

  20. You've made a wonderful job of this card Karen. Beautiful colour and such an elegant design.
Glad to hear you escaped the tornado, can't imagine what they must be like! Fortunately we don't experience anything like that in Blighty.

  22. Omigosh, this is just gorgeous, Karen! LOVE this color palette and the touch of rustic twine ... perfection!

Erin told me about the twister ... but I had no way to reach out to you (if ya knows what I mean, lolol)! I was happy to hear later that everything was okay ... nothing like a close-call with an ugly natural disaster to make you sit back and thank God!

Did you get my recent emails? I'm having trouble sending 'em ... and I still don't know why. And now I've awarded myself a brief mental-health-hiatus. I'm exhausted from creating, photographing, editing, blogging, commenting, blech, all of it! Couple of days off will do the trick ... always works!

    Miss ya! Sending hugs!!

  27. Karen,

I'm so glad you are safe! Tornados are very frightening! Whew!

Your card is another beautiful example of what a true artist can create! I just LOVE this one! Popping it into my KarenB folder!! I turn there for inspiration A L-O-T!!

I know what you mean about needing more sympathy cards. I don't think people are saying your cards are that "style" but just that as we get older, we have more people around us kicking the bucket. (that didn't sound good . . . please know that I mean it with all due respect)!

    Hugs!

  28. It's a really elegant card Karen!

Death is just part of the life cycle...sad but inevitable. The other day one of my friends called to ask me for the contact of a mutual friend. He called back to say that the number was no longer in use. I was pissed off that he changed his number and didn't inform me...only to find out later that he passed away in a sudden heart attack. He was an older friend but at 40 years old, still so young...:(

  36. I've never made one. I was so relieved that one didn't have to do one for Gallery Idol. Your's is beautiful and tasteful, though. Just lovely.
How scary about the tornado! I have nightmares about them and am thankful everyday that they are uncommon in NJ. So glad you are all safe!!

  38. Nice sympathy card, Karen. (Is it OK to use all those words together?) I think you did a fabulous job with it. Tornados are scary things -- never been in one, but the threat is enough to send me to an inner room on the first floor with no windows. Glad you are all OK!
