Decorating the tree was always an exciting event when I was little. We always had a live tree (why oh why don't I do that now?) and it would take a bit of time to fill it full of decorations. Not the matchy-matchy ones but ones that had meaning. The best ones were saved for last and they were the beaded icicles, as we called them. We'd hang them by the little colorful lights and they would make the whole tree glimmer and shine.
Silver embossing adds a lot to a card but dang, it is hard to photograph. Let's overlook that part shall we? This card is based off the sketch and colors at Jazzy Paper Designs, in which Schlosser Designs is sponsoring! For this clean and graphic card, I started by stamping the smallest of the hexagons from Hexagon-A-Thon by Schlosser Designs with watermark ink and then silver embossed them. After punching holes in both the ornaments and card base, I strung them with red thread.

ReplyDeleteOh the memories. When I was a kid we threw a huge holiday Tree Trimming Party each year, and all our friends and family would gather to help trim our tree. (We had 12 foot ceilings when I was a kids, so the trees were always HUGE) I loved learning about which ornaments came from which country and were passed on by which grandparents, etc.
ReplyDeleteThis is a tradition I still do with my own family today, and my mother passed a lot of those heirloom ornaments on to me, so it takes us severals days to find the perfect tree, cut it down, haul it home, trim it perfectly and finish decorating.
The best time about the holidays IMHO.

Growing up in Arkansas I always had an artificial tree but since my move to the north 6 years ago, a real tree it is. We always head out the day after Thanksgiving and chop one down. I looooove the smell!

ReplyDeleteYou don't have a real tree anymore? I find it odd that most Kiwis have fake trees- but can you imagine keeping a real tree alive in summer? I also find the fake ones dusted with snow to be the funniest things ever- why would you have a fake Christmas tree with snow when you have a summer Christmas in New Zealand? Lovely card, you know me- love CAS, and Christmas cards aren't my thing, so nice to see one that works with my style.

ReplyDeleteGreat take on the sketch, Karen. So classy and elegant! Such a unique Christmas card. I do love the smell of a fresh tree, but I now use an artificial tree myself. Maybe it is better for the environment, or maybe all those trees will end up in landfill Christmas in ten years?? Who knows?
