Father Time's Email

Do you think Father Time has an email address? Because if he does, I would send him a thousand of them reminding him that he needs to add more daylight to the day. I went and purchased a light tent since out of necessity for running out of daylight, and I thought it would help with my photography, but now I'm so not used to it that I think I might have hindered my photography...until I get it figured out. I'm having issues with the lights. They are pesky little buggers. Get them too close and then give off shadows. Get them too far and the whole picture is dark. This angle, that angle...One of these days the right combination will come, but please, do share your recommendations on how you set up your tents!

Yeah, there's some pretty deep shadows and highlights in the photo, but let's just look beyond that shall we? (Photographing the card and editing took three times as long as to make the card!) I've mentioned before that I have a personal challenge to make cards from scrapbook layouts, and the sketch at Artful Delight intrigued me. I also knew that I wanted to base a card off the striking color combination at CASE Study. Their March Muse Laura, well, she constantly amazes me, she is such a talented designer. I was inspired by the solid neutral popped with striking black patterns.
I love CASE Study

I pulled out the super fun Fun{tache}tic set from The Craft's Meow and created a masculine card. (The sentiment from this set was meant to take the back burner on my card, so that part of the photography isn't wonky.) We recently had some upheaval at my work and for once I was asked to make a "good bye" card!

  3. love this card! No help with the photography. I need a way to take pics inside when the weather is bad. Laurel Beard showed how she does it on one of her videos.

  5. Stick with it, Karen - you'll get the hang of it. I have one and love it, but I don't use it enough. We don't have the room to keep it up all the time, and I get too lazy to set it up for each photo. Just keep playing and make it fun! Love your wonderful, masculine card! :)

  6. Such a great guys card...love the moustache trend this year :0)
Great idea to use page LO's for card sketches, you've rocked this one.
I use a light either side of my tent shining at 90° to the fabric and then a angel poise lamp shining down from above with a Daylight bulb in it, hope this helps :0)

  10. I think the photo looks fine, don't know what you're talking about... and what fun use of sentiments in there... I recently splurged and bought Leeann's kit, so thanks for the motivation-- will see what I can create.

  11. Father time needs to give me more time too. Thankful for daylight savings tonight. I think I may have finally adjusted to the Ott lights I bought, but I'm not sure still about my photos!

  13. Love your card, Karen! I SO hear you with your lighting troubles. It took me so LONG to figure out what works for me and it's still not a good as I would like.

I have this light box: http://amzn.to/zNDMqK

    And these lights: http://amzn.to/wKRZwL

I LOVE the light on these bulbs. It doesn't look like they are still on Amazon, but at least it gives you an idea of type/wattage.

    Good luck!!

  21. I bought a light tent, but most of the time I give up and just use natural light when it permits! Anyhow, on to your card, which is stunning by the way. Love your collage of elements. Thanks for joining us at CASE study.

  22. Love this card - so fun, fabulous and still masculine!
I purchased a light tent - can't live without it now! I do have daylight lamps for when I photograph at night (I place a light either side of the tent) but nothing is a substitute for using the tent with natural daylight (the tent softens the shadows of bright sunlight) HTH!
    Hugs!

  23. Great card! Love that big 'stache!

I can't help you with the tent problems either. I have one, but it has a blue background, which is just awful for taking pictures. Need to get a white background and try again!

    Good luck!

  29. Super, duper cute, Karen! I really like the little details you added on the right side. The neutrals look *so* good together! I bought a light tent a while back but decided I didn't like it...I still use the lights, though (since we're on about the same latitude, you know why! :)
